India Pharma Asks DCGI to Extend Skills Deadline

According to a livemint article, industry experts met with officials in the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to ask for a one-year extension for its mandate requesting all employees working in pharma manufacturing facilities to get a skill certification by the beginning of next year.

The regulator said, effective January 2018, no person could be employed in any pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical manufacturing unit unless they had a formal diploma or degree in the relevant area, or been certified by the LSSSDC or an equivalent organization.

The story said the move came after domestic pharma companies faced action from regulatory authorities in the U.S. and Europe due to the quality of products, poor manufacturing facilities and improper documentation.
