Körber updates pharma MES to include functions for cell and gene therapy manufacturing
Körber, a pharmaceutical technology company, announced the release of PAS-X Manufacturing Execution System (MES) 3.4.2, adding shopfloor capabilities for pharmaceutical and life sciences manufacturing while automating deployment and reducing infrastructure requirements.
The release includes functions for cell and gene therapy (CGT) manufacturing, expanded manufacturing data access, new observability tools, and additional warehouse and material management capabilities.
The update supports Chain of Identity and Chain of Custody, material traceability, and mobile photo documentation for CGT manufacturing. Körber said the capabilities are intended to improve operator guidance and traceability for individualized therapies.
PAS-X SmartInstall automates deployments, updates, validation checks, and reporting. According to Körber, the Kubernetes Operators-based installation process can reduce installation time to a few hours while improving system availability.
The company also migrated core services to GraalVM, a runtime environment for Java applications. Körber said the change can reduce memory consumption by up to 50% while improving startup times.
PAS-X Data Access 3.2, released alongside the MES update, expands the amount of manufacturing data available to analytics teams. The updated data model provides additional information across processes, materials, products, and sites for analytics and AI applications, according to the announcement.
The release also adds observability tools that consolidate metrics, logs and traces across application, platform, and infrastructure layers. New warehouse and material management functions are designed to improve material request and supply workflows and integration with warehouse management systems.
The update follows Körber’s May 2026 announcement of PAS-X Neo, a cloud-native MES designed for small and mid-sized pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturers. The company said PAS-X Neo is expected to become available in November 2026 and is intended to provide a standardized SaaS-based entry point for manufacturers with limited IT resources.
