AsymBio begins construction of Shanghai biologics R&D center
AsymBio, a biologics-focused contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) and subsidiary of Asymchem Group, has broken ground on a new research and development (R&D) building at its Fengxian site in Shanghai, expanding the company’s biologics development and manufacturing capabilities.
Construction began in May 2026 and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2027. The eight-story, approximately 20,000-square-meter facility will support cell line development, upstream and downstream process development, conjugation process development, drug product development, as well as analytical development services for biologics.
Located adjacent to AsymBio’s clinical and commercial manufacturing facilities for antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), the new R&D center is designed to integrate development and manufacturing activities. According to the company, the facility will help streamline technology transfer, scale-up, and commercial manufacturing, while reducing project timelines.
The building will also house AsymBio’s Accelerated PCC (AccPCC) platform, an AI-enabled development platform intended to shorten the timeline from lead candidate optimization to preclinical candidate selection. The platform integrates early research, chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC), nonclinical evaluation, and early clinical translation to support biologics development.
According to the announcement, the AccPCC platform provides services including lead optimization, developability assessment, and early-stage CMC strategy to help biotechnology companies advance biologics programs more efficiently.
