Former GSK CEO named Optum head

UnitedHealth Group has named Andrew Witty the CEO of its pharmacy benefit unit

UnitedHealth Group has named its board member and former GlaxoSmithKline head Andrew Witty as chief executive of its pharmacy benefit unit, Optum, which manages drug benefits and offers healthcare data analytics services.

According to Optum, the unit's current CEO, Larry Renfro, will instead lead investment initiatives through Optum Ventures.

Witty's appointment will be effective July 1 with the former GSK head stepping down from the UnitedHealth Group board effective immediately.
