AmerisourceBergen changes name to Cencora

Jan. 26, 2023

U.S. drug wholesaler AmerisourceBergen announced this week that it would be changing its name to Cencora to “better reflect its bold vision and purpose-driven approach to creating healthier futures.”

Operating as Cencora, the company will continue to invest in and focus on its core pharmaceutical distribution business, while also growing its platform of pharma and biopharma services to support pharmaceutical innovation and access.

The company has been operating as AmerisourceBergen for 22 years, since it was established in 2001 following the merging of Bergen Brunswig and AmeriSource. It has been operating its distribution under four units; the Drug Corporation, the Special Group, the Consulting Services and World Courier. AmerisourceBergen is responsible for roughly 20% of all pharmaceuticals sold and distributed in the U.S.

According to the recent announcement, the new name is inspired by customers and team members, and the company is hoping that the shared identity will create a more inclusive experience for workers and attract new talent. The new name will go in effect in the second half of this year.
