New coronavirus cases tied to Biogen conference

March 9, 2020

Approximately 26 Biogen employees, 23 of whom live in Massachusetts, have now tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a company meeting in late February.

This has more than doubled the number of presumptive coronavirus cases in Massachusetts.

The majority of the local cases are linked to a strategic meeting that the Cambridge-based biotech held at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf at the end of February. Roughly 175 people were at that meeting, according to the drugmaker. Multiple Biogen employees later attended a conference held by investment bank Cowen and Company on March 2-4 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.

All Biogen employees have been ordered to work from home and the company is working closely with public health authorities to assist to assure that appropriate parties are tested for COVID 19 and proper follow-up precautions are initiated.
