WuXi Biologics, a China-headquartered contract research, development and manufacturing organization (CRDMO), said it has achieved ISO 20400 Sustainable Procurement certification, an international standard focused on embedding sustainability principles into procurement and supply chain operations.

According to the announcement, the certification recognizes the CRDMO’s approach to integrating environmental, social, and governance considerations across supplier lifecycle management, including supplier qualification, risk assessment, engagement, performance monitoring, as well as termination. The framework is intended to improve supply chain transparency, mitigate operational risk, and promote responsible sourcing practices.

WuXi Biologics said it has aligned its procurement strategy with science-based climate targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and is working with suppliers to support emissions reduction efforts across its value chain. The company’s sustainability strategy encompasses supplier engagement programs designed to enhance environmental performance and resilience throughout the supply chain.

CEO Chris Chen said in a statement that the certification reflects WuXi Biologics’ efforts to build a resilient and responsible supply chain that supports long-term growth while meeting global client demand.

As part of its broader sustainability and operational strategy, WuXi Biologics announced in December that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Qatar Free Zones Authority to establish its first integrated CRDMO center in the Middle East. The planned site is intended to support biologics development and manufacturing for advanced modalities while expanding the company’s global footprint, according to the company.

WuXi Biologics said it continues to pursue sustainability initiatives across its operations and supply chain as it expands manufacturing and development capabilities globally.
