Ariad Pharma Under Fire for Leukemia Drug Pricing

Ariad allegedly raised the price of its leukemia drug to almost $199,000 a year.

Former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings sent a letter to Ariad Pharmaceuticals questioning the "staggering" price increases for the company's leukemia drug, according to a Reuters article.

Sanders recently tweeted that: "Drug corporations' greed is unbelievable. Ariad raised the price of a leukemia drug to almost $199,000 a year."

The drug, Iclusig, is used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia, a type of bone marrow cancer in which marrow makes too many white blood cells.
