The pharma industry has always been data rich. Drugmakers collect massive amounts of data at all stages of the process and rely on that data to do everything from make decisions to advance or halt the development of compounds, to understanding the efficacy of marketed treatments on real patients. As the industry’s digital transformation progresses, data is piling up.
How is pharma managing all this data? According to survey results, close to 60 percent are still using Excel to aggregate and analyze process data.
Almost half of those surveyed have no plans to change the way they are managing their data. But big data is getting bigger by the minute, and there is tremendous potential for process improvement hidden in these piles of data. Without the right data management systems in place, data is nothing more than spreadsheets of wasted opportunity for improvement.
