Clear, High-Moisture Barrier Lidstock Suits Cup-Packed Product

Ampac Flexibles, a unit of Ampac Packaging LLC, recently introduced a new clear high-moisture (MVTR) barrier lidstock that can seal to trays, cups, etc., made from a wide variety of plastic materials.

Flexi-Free 6985 is said to be the first high MVTR lidstock without a foil layer that is suitable for universal application.  Plastic tray/cup types include: high-impact polystyrene (HIPS), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), amorphous polyethylene terephthalate (APET), polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polycarbonate (PC) and Barex.

The two-ply, 2.5 mil lamination is made from polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC)-coated polyester and a peelable sealant layer.  Its high MVTR characteristics make it ideal for powders where it is undesirable to absorb moisture and for gels and liquids to minimize evaporation.  Further, Flexi-Free 6985 can be peeled off cleanly without leaving a residue or contaminating the contents.  Targeted applications include: nutraceuticals, health and beauty aids and medical devices.

Ampac’s multipurpose Flexi-Free 6985 lidstock offers packagers and contract fillers running various tray/cup types significant inventory and cost savings. Ampac Packaging is also introducing a companion product—Flexi-Free 6734, which does not have a PVDC coating and is suitable for universal sealing applications which do not require a high MVTR.
