U.S. Regulator Says India's Dr. Reddy's Violated Child-Proof Packaging Rules
The U.S. government's Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has alleged that Indian drugmaker Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd violated packaging rules for some prescription drugs sold between 2008 and 2012.
The CPSC plans to seek civil penalties against Dr. Reddy's for allegedly violating regulations under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA), intended to prevent children from ingesting harmful substances.
Enacted in 1970, the PPPA requires that packaging must be "designed or constructed to be significantly difficult for children under five years of age to open within a reasonable time, and not difficult for normal adults to use properly."
