New York state sues Purdue

The state has thrown its hat in the ring with at least 26 more states to sue the OxyContin maker over its marketing of opioids

Giant spoons aren't Purdue Pharma's only problem, as New York state has joined a cavalcade of others in suing the OxyContin maker over its opioid product marketing. At least 26 more U.S. states and Puerto Rico have sued Purdue over opioids.

New York state's complaint alleges that Purdue misled doctors and patients about the benefits and risks of opioids repeatedly in order to increase prescriptions and generate more revenue.

New York City filed a similar lawsuit against opioid makers and distributors in at the beginning of the year.
