FDA hits company with warning letter for manufacturing medicine alongside pesticides

May 21, 2018

The FDA recently sent a sternly worded warning to Florida-based Product Quest for allegedly manufacturing topical medicines with the same equipment it used to make pesticides.

According to the agency, the company’s own investigation of its North Carolina facility found that “improper cleaning and residual product” could have contaminated acne medicine that was produced using shared equipment as pesticides. The FDA also accused the company of failing to note other instances when contamination could have occurred.

The FDA warned Product Quest that a “failure to promptly correct these violations may result in legal action without further notice including, without limitation, seizure and injunction.” The FDA said it would also consider blocking the company’s exports and denying further drug applications.
