Aspen expands operations with new plant

Aspen Pharmacare has announced plans to open a new $80 million plant.

The company, which is Africa’s largest generics drugmaker, said it will produce about 3.6 pills a year at the new unit. Aspen currently operates 25 facilities on 17 different sites and has employees in nearly 50 countries.

The new unit will be focused on producing late-stage oncology drugs such as Alkeran, Leukeran and Purinethol, which will mostly be for export. The goal for the expanded operations is to boost the company’s reach into the global therapeutic market.
