Takeda Eliminates 180 Ariad Pharma Jobs

The aftermath of Takeda's $5.2 billion buyout of Ariad Pharmaceuticals includes 180 layoffs in Boston, but Takeda will absorb many of those employees.

According to an article in the Boston Globe, a spokeswoman for Takeda Oncology of Cambridge, Mass., said the company will eliminate about 180 jobs at its recently acquired Ariad Pharmaceuticals, citing an “overlap in job responsibilities” after the buyout.

The good news is Takeda will reportedly retain about 120 of those former Ariad employees. About 50 others might work for Takeda’s strategic partner PRA Health Sciences, a clinical research organization that is set to operate in Boston, the spokesperson said.
