Compounder Recalls Sterile Drugs Due to Contaminated Hospira Saline

Oct. 9, 2015

According to an FDA enforcement report, Illinois-based PharMEDium has recalled sterile injectables made with contaminated Sodium Chloride supplied by Pfizer's Hospira unit.

The Hospira saline was subsequently recalled due to the presence of human hair.

The PharMEDium recall covers certains lots of morphine sulfate, decongestan PHENYLephrine, analgesic Fentanyl Citrate and anaesthetic Bupivacaine.

Drug wholesaler AmerisourceBergen just announced Tuesday that it agreed to buy PharMEDium in an all-cash deal valued at $2.58 billion.
