Both AstraZeneca and Novartis this week clarified their plans for developing and manufacturing drugs within Russia, in accordance with the Russian government's desire that drug manufacturers who wish to sell products within the country bring technology and jobs there as well. One analyst (see first link below) calls these moves part of a "land grab" by global pharma companies for turf within the Russian market.
