Syntegon launches pilot-scale tablet coater for flexible batch processing
Syntegon, a pharmaceutical and biotech equipment supplier headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, has expanded its oral solid dosage processing portfolio with the Sepion 75, a pilot-scale tablet coater designed for flexible batch processing and pharmaceutical containment applications.
According to the announcement, the new coater handles batch sizes from 10% to 100% of its maximum working volume. Two interchangeable drum sizes in a single machine cover batch volumes from 8 liters to 75 liters, allowing manufacturers and contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) to process early development batches and pilot runs without redefining process parameters.
An optimized drum geometry and spraying system are designed to improve process-air use and shorten coating times, the company said. An automatically adjustable spray arm reportedly maintains the spray position at different filling levels to support consistent coating conditions across batch sizes, including applications such as functional coatings.
The Sepion series uses closed material handling during filling, sampling, and discharge to minimize manual intervention. Containment options up to OEB5 are available across the series, using split valves, safe-change filters, and extended cleaning configurations for applications involving highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients.
The system is designed to enable direct transfer of parameters from pilot to commercial scale. The series now includes six additional sizes ranging from 175 liters to 1,000 liters, providing coating capacity from development through commercial production.
Syntegon said the new coater completes the series and is intended to support manufacturers and CDMOs managing smaller and more variable batches, while maintaining consistent coating processes and containment practices.
