Medipost, QCellS expand CDMO partnership for cell culture media

The agreement will support scaled production of QCellS’s hiPSC-based dermal papilla cell culture media using Medipost’s manufacturing and quality control capabilities.

Medipost, a Seoul, South Korea-based cell therapy company, has signed a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) agreement with QCellS to produce human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-based dermal papilla cell culture media.

Under the agreement, Medipost will establish a production system for QCellS’s cell culture media and manage raw material production and supply. The company will use manufacturing and quality control capabilities developed through its cell therapy operations, including GMP production facilities, to provide the CDMO services.

QCellS’s media are produced through a cell differentiation and cultivation process that takes about 120 days. Medipost said it applied scale-up manufacturing technology to the process to reduce batch-to-batch variation and establish a raw material supply system for larger-scale production.

The media will be managed according to South Korean safety standards for human cell and tissue culture media. Quality testing before release will include appearance and sterility testing, mycoplasma and adventitious virus testing, as well as identity and purity testing.
