Great. Now FDA Can Regulate Tobacco, Too.

April 2, 2009

Today brought news that the House has passed the Family Smoking Prevention and Control Act.  Representative Waxman was pleased and Senator Kennedy is expected to drive similar legislation in Senate after its spring break.  But wait a minute, aren't cigarettes (unlike food---at least in its uncontaminated state--- and the intent of most drugs and medical devices) inherently harmful?  And where's the logic in adding yet another task to the growing list for FDA, whose inspectors already face that wild west called "supplements"....

Maybe it's time to give David Kessler a call and designate him Anti-Tobacco czar.
