Claims Limited in Nigerian Trovan Case

BBC reports today that Nigeria's Abuja court has refused to allow 85 new claims to be added to the original 54, in the state's lawsuit against Pfizer, which is accused of conducting improper drugs trials on children. The Nigerian government seeks $7 billion in damages and compensation for families of children who died or suffered side effects. 200 children took part in the clinical trials in 1996; Pfizer claims that only 11 of the children died. Pfizer has denied any wrongdoing and said its trial of Trovan was conducted in accordance with Nigerian regulations.
