A Taste of My Own Medicine

Help us measure how we're doing so we can better help you
Those of you who have read this page before may already have sensed that I'm a big advocate of continuous process improvement methodologies and their potential to bring more engineering discipline to the science of drug manufacturing.

Indeed, a large part of our editorial mission at Pharmaceutical Manufacturing magazine is to lead manufacturing professionals in a dialogue aimed at improving the quality and safety of the global drug supply--while improving process efficiencies and lowering manufacturing costs. The only way to do this is to identify and root out, systematically, sources of variability and inefficiency.

The various principles and methodologies for continuous process improvement are well developed and documented, but what they all have in common is a fundamental reliance on measurement. It's been said a hundred different ways, but the statement remains axiomatic: If you don't measure something, how can you possibly improve it?

I'm a chemical process development engineer by training and past practice, but as an editor, I've found that the same principles apply to magazine-making. If we are to continuously find ways of better meeting your information needs, we must first be able to measure how we're doing.

There;s where you come in.

I'm looking for a loyal group of pharmaceutical manufacturing professionals who would be willing to respond to a simple email survey on a monthly to quarterly basis. My intent is to give you the information that you need by understanding your most urgent needs and priorities and your opinions on emerging technologies and best practices. I further ensure you that a survey will never take more than five minutes to complete and that individual responses will be kept in strictest confidence.

In addition to receiving a magazine that better suits their information needs, participants in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing's Inner Circle will receive an exclusive first look at the collective insights of their peers, as well as a handsome coffee mug touting their membership in this august body. We want Pharmaceutical Manufacturing to provide the monthly dose of intelligence that you need to make better decisions on behalf of your companies and your careers. Help us measure how we're doing so we can better help you.

If you're interested in participating as a founding member of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing's Inner Circle, drop me an email at [email protected] or give me a call at 630-467-1300. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
