Johnson Controls Automation Systems B.V. has installed Bioscrypt's (Toronto) V-Pass readers at Merck Sharp and Dohme's pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in the Netherlands. The readers heighten security from passwords, PINs or identity cards, to finger scans. Anyone entering to gain access to a restricted area will be asked to match his or her live fingerprint with a scan that was taken when they first joined the company. "As adoption of biometrics continues to escalate, the number of sites at which we will be incorporating this technology is sure to rise, said Rick Zoet, sales manager for fire and security solutions for Johnson Controls.
Bioscrypt has, so far, installed over 75,000 such devices in a number of industries. According to the market research firm, Frost & Sullivan, demand for biometrics technologies is expected to grow from $225 in 2002 to $2 billion in 2006. Currently, GE, Honeywell and Tyco, and Johnson are authorized V-Pass distributors
