According to Teva, its Rimsa plant in Mexico is closed and has not produced anything since October, per the request of COFEPRIS, the Mexican drug regulation authority.

Teva is currently in a court battle with the previous owners of the Mexican generics business -- the Espinosa brothers -- after Teva claimed Rimsa failed to disclose the differences between manufacturing processes and descriptions in product registrations filed with regulators. Teva is seeking a variety of remedies for fraud and breach of contract.

Sources told Israel's Globes that a large portion of the plant's employees have been laid off and Rimsa is not making any effort to restore regulatory approval for its products. Teva sources, however, claim the company has not given up on the Rimsa facility.
