Bayer has agreed to add a stricter warning label to its herbal stomach drops, Iberogast.
The German drugmaker was in the midst of legally defending the product’s safety when new reports of liver damage linked to the product surfaced, including the death of one patient who had undergone a liver transplant.
The new label will indicate that the product, which is marketed as a treatment for symptoms such as stomach cramps, bloating and nausea, should not be used by anyone with liver disease as well as pregnant and breast-feeding women.
Bayer took over the brand after its acquisition of Steigerwald in 2013.
