Pharmacist who tampered with Moderna shots gets jail time, hefty fine

June 9, 2021

A pharmacist in Wisconsin who purposefully tried to destroy hundreds of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines has been sentenced to jail time.

This week, the U.S. Justice Department reported that the 46-year-old pharmacist has been sentenced to three years in jail and ordered to pay $83,800 to the hospital where he worked.

After removing a box of Moderna vaccines, which have frozen storage requirements, from refrigeration during two consecutive overnight shifts last year, the pharmacist pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to tamper with consumer products.

The pharmacist had admitted to co-workers previously that he was skeptical about vaccines and of Moderna’s shot in particular.
