Square Pharma to break ground on plant in Africa

Jan. 8, 2018

Square Pharmaceuticals, a major pharma company in Bangladesh, announced that it will begin construction on a drug manufacturing facility in Kenya’s Athi River, a town near Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

Square Pharma, which employs around 7,300 people, manufacturers a range of treatments, with a focus on those that relieve digestive distress, such as anti-acids, digestive stimulants and anti-diarrheal medicine.

The construction will begin next week, as Square joins other drugmakers who have ventured into eastern Africa, including Moroccan firm Cooper Pharma, which started the construction of first antibiotics plant in Rwanda in December.
