Takeda Shifts, Cuts Jobs in Reorg

July 20, 2017

Takeda Pharmaceuticals is finishing a major reorganization that has required hundreds of employees in R&D and vaccines to relocate from suburban Chicago to the Boston area, as well as eliminated hundreds more field sales jobs across the country.

Over the past two years, Takeda has shifted employees from its U.S. headquarters in Illinios to the blossoming biotech hub in Massachusetts. As reported by Crain's, as many as 600 Deerfield, IL-based R&D employees and 150 vaccines employees were required to relocate. Separately, in March, Takeda axed 480 sales people and managers in field offices around the country.

The changes come as Takeda tries to jumpstart growth by focusing on cancer and other specialty drugs rather than primary-care pharmaceuticals.
