Top Five Opioid Makers Under Fire from U.S. Senator

March 29, 2017

U.S. Democratic senator Claire McCaskill calls for an investigation of the leading opioid manufacturers to discover details about their sales and marketing practices, according to a Reuters article.

The query is spurred by the growing number of opioid-related deaths, with 91 Americans dying everyday as a result of overdose, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the story said.

"This epidemic is the direct result of a calculated sales and marketing strategy major opioid manufacturers have allegedly pursued over the past 20 years to expand their market share," McCaskill said.
