The co-owner and president of the now defunct New England Compounding Center, a pharmacy responsible for the deaths of 76 people, was sentenced Monday to nine years in prison. According to an abc news report, he apologized to victims who watched family members die or endured excruciating pain after a 2012 nationwide fungal meningitis outbreak caused by contaminated steroids.
The sentence was much less than many victims felt was just, many of whom asking U.S. District Judge Richard Stearns to give 50-year-old Cadden life in prison.
According to the abc article, prosecutors said Cadden sent out steroids when he knew there was mold present in the room where the steroids were made, and he increased production to make more profit.
