FDA Raids Florida Stores in Drug Import Crackdown

Nov. 21, 2017

Last month, the U.S. FDA sent criminal investigation agents with search warrants into nine stores in Central Florida, in an attempt to crackdown on stores importing drugs from foreign countries, reports Kaiser Health News.

These stores assist customers in ordering drugs from pharmacies in Canada and overseas at discounted prices. Typically, customers are seniors -- with valid prescriptions -- who simply require in-person assistance (versus using the internet) with buying medicines abroad. The drugs are then sent directly to the customers' homes.

According to Kaiser sources, the FDA search warrants were for computers, paperwork pertaining to sales of foreign drugs and any drugs themselves. No stores were shut down.
