Minnesota sues Eli Lilly, Sanofi and Novo Nordisk over alleged price-gouging
Minnesota’s attorney general has filed a lawsuit that accuses Eli lilly, Sanofi and Novo Nordisk of deceptively raising prices for insulin.
Filed in federal court in Trenton, New Jersey, the lawsuit by Minnesota attorney general Lori Swanson focuses on the companies that had the price of some of its insulin products more than triple since 2002 even though the medications have not changed fundamentally.
The lawsuit argues that the list prices the drug companies set were so far from net prices that they did not accurately approximate the true cost of insulin and were deceptive and misleading. Swanson argues that those who are uninsured or have high deductible health plans were most affected because they are left to pay the list prices.
