Incessant news about plant closings and downsizings in the U.S. can blind us to the fact that this is a global phenomenon. Read today that Wyeth will be eliminating jobs at its plant in Newbridge, Kildare.  Also read that Engineers Ireland and Enterprise Ireland offer an innovative program aimed to help engineering firms and other technology companies improve their product development capabilities.  The goal: to help them stay competitive. Sounds like an idea that other national governments could explore. -AMS
