Novartis Collaborates on Smart Inhaler Sensors

Feb. 13, 2017

Novartis will partner with digital respiratory health management company Propeller Health to develop a custom add-on sensor for Novartis' Breezhaler inhaler.

The add-on sensor will be developed to work with Novartis' capsule-based dry powder inhaler by recording and transmitting compliance data to provide information through the Propeller Digital Respiratory Therapy platform to users and their doctors about medication adherence.

While the Novartis partnership is focused in Europe and U.S. regulatory pathways are not being discussed at this time, Propeller already has eight U.S. FDA clearances for its smart inhaler sensors.
