Six Dead in India Pharma Factory Explosion

Six workers were killed in a fire caused by a reactor explosion in a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Hyderabad, India, early Monday morning.

Two other employees were injured. The explosion occurred when a filter attached to reactor exploded due to an imbalance in heat management, according to the International Business Times.

The unit, which makes drug intermediates, is owned by Hasita Aromatics Private Limited, a small-scale company based in Hyderabad, according to a Business Standard article. The explosion also caused a chemical spill.

"The incident took place in the early hours and the bodies are beyond recognition," said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ibrahimpatnam Division) P Narayana. Read the full IBT story
