Omega Pharma Joins OTC Sale Trend, Could Fetch $4B

July 9, 2014

According to Bloomberg sources, Omega Pharma NV, a Belgian-based over-the-counter healthcare company, is exploring a potential sale.

The leading European consumer healthcare company is best known for OTC painkiller Solpadeine, sleeping pill Nytol, and insect-repellent Jungle Formula.

Omega Pharma is working with Morgan Stanley on the sale, which could start as early as this month, Bloomberg sources report.

The potential sale falls in line with the recent flurry of consumer healthcare mergers and acquistions. In April, GSK and Novartis created a new Consumer Health Care business through a joint venture that will combine Novartis’ over-the-counter drug business with GSK’s consumer business. In May, Bayer agreed to acquire Merck's consumer care business for a purchase price of $14.2 billion.
