Medical Marijuana Industry Blunt About Quality Standards
MediJean, a Canadian bio-pharma company, has taken initiative by defining quality assurance standards for the medical marijuana industry.
MediJean's Product Safety and Security Plan is based on HACCP principles and is on its way to achieving ISO9001:2008 Certification. The company adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices as defined in the Canadian Food and Drug Act, and will exceed microbiological and chemical standards as stated by both the World Health Organization guidelines and those set by British Pharmacopoeia.
In the U.S., advocacy group Americans for Safe Access recently launched a nationwide program called Patient Focused Certification (PFC), the only nonprofit, third-party certification for the medical marijuana industry based on new quality standards issued by the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) and the American Herbal Pharmacopeia (AHP).
