China Investigates Vaccine Makers After Infant Deaths

Dec. 30, 2013

Chinese Health Authorities are investigating two key vaccinemakers after the deaths of 8 infants were linked to their hepatitis B vaccines.

According to the NY TImes, seven of the deaths have been linked to vaccines produced by Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products; the two other infant deaths occurred after the use of a hep B vaccine produced by Beijing Tiantan Biological Products.

The Chinese government has put a hold on millions of doses of the vaccines from Shenzhen Kangtai earlier this week, and has not said whether any action had been taken against Beijing Tiantan or its vaccines yet.
