HIV/AIDS Drug Development Roundup: Gates Foundation, Canada to Invest $140 Million in AIDS Vaccine Development; Anthony Fauci on

The Gates Foundation and the Canadian government plan to establish an R&D center dedicated to HIV/AIDS vaccine development.  A clinical trial of Merck's vaccine has begun in the Dominican Republic. And earlier this week, Inovio received a U.S. Patent for its novel electroporation vaccine delivery method, and its research partner Wyeth presented preliminary primate test data on the DNA vaccine that they are jointly developing. Their partnership was launched in November, 2006. Today, NPR aired an interview with top AIDS researcher, NIH's Dr. Anthony Fauci, discussing novel therapies under development.  To listen or read a transcript of the interview, click here. Below, slightly expanded coverage of a previous story on HIV/AIDS drug development which includes a very brief interview with Dr. Fauci (accessible below or via our video RSS feed).
