Akunyili issues guidance for future clinical trials, probes allegations that foreign petroleum firm clinics gave fake drugs to N

 Dora A Dora Akunyili, head of NAFDAC (Nigeria's FDA), reiterated the need for any drug company seeking to run clinical trials in Nigeria to obtain her Agency's formal approval and stated that the trials would have to be supervised by a member of the NAFDAC staff, who would also have to be present during part of the trial process, according to a local press report. The report also said that Dr. Akunyili is lookinginto allegations that petroleum companies and subcontractor clinics were dispensing illegal, fake and substandard drugs to Nigerian workers at their clinics (It's alleged that expatriate workers from other countries who were treated at the same facilities received genuine medications). -AMS
