Army Mistakenly Ships Live Anthrax to Labs

May 28, 2015

U.S. personnel working at an Army facility in Utah mistakenly shipped off live samples of Anthrax to laboratories in nine U.S. states and an air base in South Korea.

However, Army Chief of Staff General Raymond Odierno says Army personnel appeared to have correctly followed all the outlined procedures to inactivate anthrax before shipping. Investigators are now reviewing the procedures.

No one has shown any signs of exposure, but several individuals are undergoing post-exposure prophylaxis as a preventive measure.
