Pharma/Biotech Companies Ranked Top 10 on World’s Most Sustainable Companies List

Jan. 28, 2014

Biogen (#2) and Novo Nordisk (#7) have been named top ten among the 2014 Corporate Knights Global 100. Corporate Knights announced the results of its 2014 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World last week at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.

Qualifying Global 100 companies are scored on a list of twelve quantitative key performance indicators that run the gamut from energy and water use, to employee compensation and corporate tax strategy. The Global 100 follows a rules-based construction methodology, making it more akin to a financial index than other sustainability indexes.

Headquartered in Massachusetts, Biogen Idec is a biotechnology company specializing in innovative therapies for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, hemophilia and autoimmune disorders. Headquartered in Denmark, Novo Nordisk specializes in diabetes care, haemophilia care, growth hormone therapy and hormone replacement therapy.

Additional companies listed in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotechnology category that made the top 100 list include:

UCB SA (#18)
Life Technologies Corporation (#21)
Johnson & Johnson (#57)
Agilent Technologies Inc (#61)
Eisai Co Ltd (#69)
Roche Holding AG (#94)
Novartis AG (#99)
