China Detains 1300 Suspected Drug Counterfeiters

An intensified government crackdown has led Chinese police to round up over 1300 suspects accused of producing and selling fake medicine.

According to a Chinese news agency, authorities seized fake drugs and close to 20,000 lbs. of raw materials worth over $362.4 million. The fake drugs purported to treat illnesses ranging from children's cold and flu to heart problems.

In addition, police have reportedly shut down 140 illegal websites and online pharmacies in 29 provinces and major cities since June.
