Axway’s Synchrony Supply Chain Integrity Suite Chosen by Genzyme

Axway announced on May 12 Genzyme Corp. has selected its Synchrony Supply Chain Integrity Suite as part of its Serial Number Management System (SNMS) initiative.  The initiative is part of Genzyme’s ongoing efforts to safeguard patients from counterfeits and help prevent diversion and increase supply chain visibility.  The initiative is also geared toward making Genzyme compliant with EPCglobal’s EPC Information Services (EPCIS) standard.

“Our SNMS initiative is only one example of our efforts to implement safeguards that protect patients,” said Jim Shuman, senior vice president of Materials Management at Genzyme.  “We pride ourselves as early adopters and for being one of the first biotech companies to adopt global serialization, which is further evidence of this.  We’ve been partnering with Axway for two years, so it was natural for us to look to them since they have demonstrated a keen understanding of the challenges we face.  When making this decision, it became clear Axway’s Synchrony solution was the best fit.”

Synchrony Supply Chain Integrity Suite is comprised of multiple components that can be selected and deployed to address specific needs.  Genzyme will utilize Synchrony ePedigree, which integrates with ERP systems to provide secure access to product pedigree information. Genzyme will also use Synchrony Supply Chain Integrity Suite to collect and manage data in a single place to analyze and prevent abnormalities relating to product serialization numbers.  Genzyme will apply this solution to its manufacturing facilities in Ireland and the United States.  Given that the same product may be manufactured in multiple facilities, this capability will prevent manufacturing facilities from duplicating serial numbers.

“The healthcare business today is conducted globally with manufacturing facilities in multiple countries and patients spread across the globe,” said Kim Loughead, director, Healthcare Solutions, Axway.  “Given this, supply chain integrity becomes even more vital, as is the ability to accurately track and account for products as they make their way from point of manufacture to point of dispensing.  Axway’s thought-leadership and expertise in this area is a natural fit for forward-thinking companies like Genzyme.”

Axway's Synchrony Supply Chain Integrity Suite improves operational efficiency through supply chain visibility, assures data integrity in supply chain transactions, enables product authentication, streamlines reverse logistics processes and can be integrated with existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.  For additional information on Synchrony Supply Chain Integrity Suite, please visit: www.axway.com/solutions/healthcare.php.
