Management Changes Emerge at Emergent BioSolutions

Emergent BioSolutions Inc., Rockville, Md., on May 16 announced several management changes. First, the company is consolidating the president and chief operating officer positions. As such, Daniel J. Abdun-Nabi, the company's president, will also take on the role of chief operating officer. In this combined role, Abdun-Nabi will oversee all of the company's product development, manufacturing and corporate affairs activities. He will continue to report to Fuad El-Hibri, Emergent's chairman and chief executive officer.

Other management changes, which are also effective immediately, include:

  • Thomas K. Zink, M.D., formerly senior vice president, medical affairs, is now senior vice president, medical and clinical development.
  • Edward J. Arcuri, Ph.D., is resigning his position as chief operating officer.
  • R. Don Elsey is being promoted to the position of senior vice president, finance and administration. Formerly vice president, finance and administration, Elsey will retain his responsibilities as chief financial officer for the company and will now assume additional responsibility for investor relations and human resource activities.
  • Kyle W. Keese is being appointed to the position of senior vice president, corporate affairs with responsibility for public affairs, marketing and sales and corporate development. He was formerly senior vice president marketing and communications.

"Today's senior management consolidation and associated changes within our corporate organization are designed to strengthen the integration of our development and manufacturing organizations and to enhance the company's positioning and capabilities in both the biodefense and commercial immunobiotic markets," said CEO El-Hibri.
