Design of Experiment packages (DOEs) are an important tool for process optimization and understanding, product development, and process validation. To help pharmaceutical manufacturing professionals get up to speed on DOEs, an “Introduction to Design of Experiments” course will be held September 14-16 in Woodbridge, N.J.

Co-presented by Frederick H. Long, Ph.D., president of Spectroscopic Solutions, LLC, and Dongsheng Bu, Ph.D., senior scientist, CAMO Technology, this three-day class is a hands-on course that will teach participants how to use DOEs to solve practical problems. The course will assume no previous statistical or chemometrics experience.

The application of DOEs will be highlighted; however, the application of multivariate statistics for industrial applications will also be covered. Numerous real world data sets will be examined during the course. Students are encouraged to bring their own data for analysis and group discussion.

The course will use The Unscrambler and Optimizer software packages, which are powerful, easy to use platforms for DOE and multivariate analysis. Software and computers will be provided.

Course topics include: Introduction to Statistics, Analysis of Variance, Linear Regression, Introduction to DOEs, Screening Designs (fractional factorial, Plackett-Burman), Response Surface (Central Composite Designs, Box-Behnken), Mixture Designs, The Optimizer, Use DOEs for PAT and Process Validation, other topics to be determined by class interest.

The course will be held at:
