Merck Follows Liaison's Real-Time Enterprise Roadmap

02/04/2005

With the help of Liaison Technologies, Merck & Co. Inc. is building a real-time, event-driven internal application integration and information exchange with external business partners, suppliers and customers.

Liaison’s experts worked with Merck to assess the organization’s workflows and practices. Then the joint team identified opportunities for improvement, given industry best practices and technology requirements. The completed mapping of technical and business strategies is now being used to help Merck transition into a synchronized enterprise.

"As Merck continues to expand external alliances, it’s seeking an approach to application integration that will enable transparent visibility and flexibility of business processes," said Bob Renner, chief executive officer of Liaison Technologies. "The result of this engagement is a roadmap that will help Merck become a true real-time enterprise, enabling improved data quality and operational efficiency. Ultimately, this new enterprise network approach will give Merck the highest level of agility with business partners, suppliers and customers."

Merck chose to partner with Liaison Technologies for this critical work because of Liaison’s background in building real-time enterprise networks. In addition to building Merck’s enterprise network roadmap, Liaison’s Professional Services Group is now providing counsel to Merck on the business benefits, ROI and implementation choices that relate to the installation and integration of next-generation network technologies.

"This integration strategy will support several key initiatives at Merck by providing a flexible, efficient foundation for connecting with our partners and better streamlining our internal business processes," said Clark Golestani, Merck’s chief architect and executive director of enterprise architecture and strategic planning. "We are excited that moving forward this initiative will not only give us an opportunity to enable real-time visibility into the data when it is needed by the business, but it will help us to drive improvements in data quality through more standardized integration."
